BRAVEHEART FARMS ACQUIRES
RAWHIDE RIGGIN, ROCKY'S BROD
by Manny F. Piņol / August 22, 2007
In its continuing effort to improve the quality of Boer goats in the Philippines, North Cotabato's Braveheart Farms, has acquired another outstanding breeding buck, Rawhide Riggin.
The arrival of Riggin, who happens to be a half-brother of NGSCP National Champion Buck 70 Rocky, brings to five the number of breeding bucks now at the Braveheart Farms.
They are 70 Rocky (out of LRB Bubba and EGGS R832), Rawhide Stormcat (out of Tehachapi's Ruger and DQ Nadine), Rawhide Renegade (out of RRD RYALS FINALE and Tri-Quest Ms. Kiah Rose), Rawhide Floyd (out of DER BO HUNK and DQ DENA) and Rawhide Riggin (out of Tehachapi's Ruger and EGGS R832).
Of the five, Rawhide Stormcat, a fullblood Red Boer, carries the colored breeding program and is being mated to Red Boer does which Braveheart Farms acquired from California in 2004.
Rocky and Riggin have the same mother and although they have different fathers (Rocky's sire is LRB Bubba while Riggin's sire is Tehachapi Ruger), they are related on the father side.
Rocky's grandsire is EGGSONERATE who is also Riggin's greatgrandsire. That makes Riggin a half-brother and a nephew of Rocky.
What's spectacular about Riggin is that he carries the same body conformation as Rocky, stocky and well-muscled, qualities which breeder Kim Dougherty says come from the two bucks' mother - EGGS R832.
Riggin who was born April 13, 2006 weighs 130 kilos just like his brother, Rocky. As soon as he is rested and acclimatized, he will be mated to the first batch of Rocky's young does, some of whom are now about seven months old.
