T
he Boer Goat was first introduced to me by a US-based acquaintance who handled the shipment of the American gamefowls that I acquired for breeding in the Philippines. The first shipment that I received included a big white buck and four does. Unfortunately, the buck suffered a bloat after arrival and I lost him after about two weeks.
I decided to acquire 10 more heads. These included two bucks - red and white - and four white does and another four red does.
When the does started birthing, I got inspired and acquired more stocks from several North California Boer Breeders including Tom Sevigny of 70 Boers, Kim Ridpath of 3R Ranch, Vickie Geddes of Tehachapi Mountain Boers and Rebecca Cogswell of  Moonstone Ranch. Through Tom, I was also able to get does bred by Kim Dougherty of  Rawhide Ranch and Jennifer Aguirre.

Owing to the unpredictable weather in the area, I have decided to raise my goats in elevated pens that make health management easier. It has also enabled us to make use of their wastes for fertilizing the fruit trees we have in the farm.

Today, the Braveheart Boer Farm has 180 heads with many more kids coming every month as at least 40 does currently pregnant.

Already, I have sold about 60 young red and white bucks whose quality is comparable to those bred in the US. I am not selling any young does as I intend to reach a 300-doe level in the farm to enable me to produce at least 400 kids every year by the year 2008.

Most of the young bucks are sold through reservations or first-come-first-served basis. Almost all of the young bucks for sale now are offsprings of Rocky, the 2007 Best Senior Boer Buck of the National Goat and Sheep Congress of the Philippines.

To give you an idea of the quality of the Boer Goats that I have in the farm, I am posting the pictures of the herd sires and some of the does which are producing the young bucks that we sell.

Pictured here at 18 months old, Rocky was born on March 4, 2005 and bred by Tom and Marilyn Sevigny of 70 Boers Farm out of LRB Bubba (a son of Eggsonerate and SRR 'LRB LATISA') and EGGS R832.

Rocky was a junior champion in California before he was brought to the Philippines where he was adjudged Best Buck in an Island-wide goat show that we held Sept. 1, 2006 in the Island of Mindanao.

Most of the kids in the farm now are out of Rocky who now weighs about 130 kilos.

Rocky was adjudged 2007 National Champion Senior Boer Buck in the recent National Goat and Sheep Congress held in Cagayan de Oro City in Mindanao Island.

A local born doe named Vina won the Best Doe category while Jose Cuervo Jr. won as jr. buck and Bo Hunk's Girl won as best jr. doe.

THE HERD SIRES

+ 70 ROCKY
Born Oct. 9, 2003, Tehachapi Seguaro was bred by Jeffrey and Vickie Geddes of Tehachapi, California out of LRB Hobenero, an Ennobled buck, and Mbili SA. Hobenero is also an offspring of Eggsorcist out of Eggsquisite, which makes Seguaro a cousin of 70 Rocky.
+ TEHACHAPI SEGUARO
Our junior bucks are full-brothers but totally different in color. Rawhide Storm Cat, the brown buck, and Rawhide Denali, including a third sibling, a young doe named Rawhide Nike, were bred by Kim Dougherty of the Rawhide Ranch of Palmdale, California.
I acquired Seguaro after I visited the Tehachapi Mountain Ranch of Jeffrey and Vickie in April 2006. He will be extensively used in our production program 2007 as most of the young does now out of 70 Rocky would be ready for mating.

(I have sold Seguaro to a young friend, Marvin Tupas of Gen. Santos City.)
THE JUNIOR BUCKS
Our junior bucks are full-brothers but totally different in color. Rawhide Storm Cat, the brown buck, and Rawhide Denali, including a third sibling, a young doe named Rawhide Nike, were bred by Kim Dougherty of the Rawhide Ranch of Palmdale, California.

Their parents are Tehachapi's Ruger and DQ Dream Quest Nadine who both trace their lineage to Eggsonerate.

Rawhide Storm Cat has been mated to six Red Boer does which I bred locally while Denali has been paired to four does which are all pregnant now.

(Denali has been sold to another friend, Bobet Espanola also of Gen. Santos City.)

We have a few young bucks for sale on a first-come-first-served basis. Sorry, we will not be selling does until we have reached a 300-doe level.

My dream as a goat breeder now is to contribute to the improvement of the quality of meat goats in the Island of Mindanao.

Take a look at the beauties that we have in the Braveheart Boer Goats Farm and feel free to visit anytime.
